Sunday Request Show – Inis Esezobor-Oyekan

Radio St Helier Sylvia Friday

Sunday 3pm-5pm

Inis plays your Sunday afternoon requests from 3pm.

Three words to describe the show

Happy, fun and electic.

About the show

Playing songs requested by patients and topping up with songs inspired by my family, friends and my daily life.

Inis’ memorable moment:

I’m a bit of a technophobe so my initial reaction to any equipment other than paper is to wince!

First day of going solo – I was very excited but also extremely nervous. I was not convinced I could think, speak and move buttons on the sound board at the same time! My heart was beating so fast I felt the listeners could hear it. Turns out the fear was all in my head because I managed to get through the show in one piece.

The first record Inis bought…

Motown greatest hits on cassette tape and I splashed out on a Walkman too! I would listen to the tape on my way home from college – made my bus journey from Selsdon to Crystal Palace go so much faster.

Inis’ Claim to fame:

I met the former British triple jumper, Jonathan Edwards, on the train from Clapham Junction to Gipsy Hill station. I was sat opposite him and noticed his silver hair straight away. Could not believe that I was sat a few meters from one of my childhood heros. I wanted to speak with him but was desperately shy. I was determined and just before I got off the train I mustered up the courage and said ‘excuse me, are you Jonathan Ross?’ He shook his head and said with a friendly smile ‘no, I’m Jonathan Edwards!’ I was so embarrased, not sure why I said the wrong surname. Guess I was so star struck I could not think straight. Thank goodness, the train had reached Gipsy Hill station at that point. I muttered something like, its good to meet you, and ran out of the train!

Favourite part of being a hospital radio volunteer:

Speaking to the patients, being introduced to new artists, doing the background research on artists and playing the songs on air. I love my day job and I equally enjoy being a radio volunteer.

Favourite show on Radio St Helier:

Every show that I have listened to brings something different to the station and I pick up loads of skills from all the presenters. So, in all honesty, I would say all the shows.
